The colder weather has finally arrived in Florida. Recent cool downs and this past weekend’s arctic blast are doing their job in cleaning up the algae blooms which have plagued our inland waters for quite some time. Today’s trip was planned as a day on the water for my good friend’s birthday and it paid off. We had multiple shots at redfish, most of which were upper to overslot fish. Although most were very sluggish due to the colder water, we were able to coax a few very nice fish in to taking our fly presentations. After a few changes in fly patterns they seem too key in on smaller natural colored crab flies slowly worked right on the bottom. Cut bait such as Lady Fish, Mullet, and even dead Shrimp should also be the perfect bait of choice this time of year for Redfish and Black Drum. For Seatrout not much can beat a live Shrimp under a popping cork fished in deeper water and canals.
As temps begin to rebound later this week the fishing should only get better.
