snook fishing

Captain Justin and I are sticking close to the inlets at Canaveral and Sebastian this week. Cold water upwelling’s have taken over the near-coastal waters after hurricane Debby rolled past the west coast last week. The resulting southwest wind patterns that we have experienced since then has messed up the bite out on the ocean. It has created some interesting changes to our inshore and inlets bite though.

Tarpon, bull shark, jack, and snook are pushing farther inside the inlets because of the cooler water that is along the beach. Baitfish have also pushed inside the inlets. Pogies, pilchards, croakers and glass minnows are the main baitfish these predators feed on and large schools of each are now inside our lagoon system. Captain Justin found tarpon to 110-pounds in the Indian River near Rockledge for his clients this last week. My largest was closer to 85-pounds. Snook, big Jack and plenty of bull sharks in the 50 to 100 pound class were also striking our live baits.

We are excited to return to the calm river waters again this week in search of more silver kings with our charter clients. If you are interested in joining one of us, we do have a couple of days available. You can reach us at 321-505-8217 or book one of us directly on our website at finelinefishingcharters.com. We recommend that you choose the 4 or 6-hour options at this time of the year to avoid the daily thunderstorms.
