Folks often ask me about eating sharks. Bonnetheads, which are frequently caught in the Central Florida surf, are a personal favorite. These fish are delicious with mild, white, flaky meat. See the photos below for the process of how to clean them. While there is a variety of ways to clean small sharks, this is the way I prefer.
Don’t turn your nose up at eating shark until you’ve tried a bonnethead! But please remember that you need a Shore-based shark fishing license issued by FWC to harvest these sharks. There is no minimum size limit on bonnetheads, but licensed anglers are limited to one per day. If you don’t already have a license, you can get it for free by taking the course via FWC.
