On Sunday, I fished the surf for the first time in several weeks. It was a pretty day on Melbourne Beach. I had nothing ready and only some frozen fleas and fishbites to start with. Got to the beach around 8:30am and fished until about 1:00. I think I spent more time swimming in the clean, warm, clear water, on this hot and muggy day than paying attention to my poles. A school of small bait swam by and I caught two lady fish with a small spoon under them. As the tide rose, I was able to gather enough fleas to fish with, although about 95% were too small. A shark of about 6-7’ cruised by just a few feet from shore but I could not identify the species. Ended up with a few keeper pomp’s and a few whiting.
