cobia

Hey, Spacefish readers! We here at Fineline fishing charters have had an awesome week in our nearshore and offshore fisheries. As you guys know, our snook season has just opened up and we’ve targeted these fish quite a few times already with good results. While it can be hard to hit that 4” margin, it can be done and when you do hit it, you have an awesome meal to take home to the family.

A little further from the beach our tarpon and shark bite has been on fire. We’ve landed tarpon up to about 100lbs this week and sharks into the 160lbs range. Typically we are doing a mixture of slow trolling and pitching baits to these fish as we see them actively rolling. We have a feeling the nearshore bite is just going to get better and better as we get deeper into this year’s mullet run.

On our offshore wrecks and reefs we’ve had a lot of luck with big king fish as well as cobia and even a sprinkle of mahi mahi here and there. With the Gulf Stream being so close, it has pushed those fish into the shallower waters and we have been getting good chances at them over the past week.
