redfish

It’s been a little bit windy this past week here on the Space Coast, so our options were to hide from the wind and fish along leeward edges of our coastal lagoons. Fishing near mangrove covered shorelines can be challenging for novice anglers, so here are a few of the things that I look for when we’re trying to put my fishing charter clients on a good bite.

Clean, or relatively clean water is important. If you can couple this with a good bait fish supply you should be able to find speckled trout, redfish, black drum, snook, and other predators in areas with these conditions. Bass Assassin lure company makes a couple of products that we rely on heavily in the spring to increase our odds of catching fish. One is the 2 to 2.5-inch speckled perch or crappie lures called a Crappie Dapper. The pink, grey, and chartreuse “ghost” colors are good on most days and we also like the S&P Silver Phantom as well. I like to rig these on the 1/16th ounce spring lock Assassin jig heads with the 1/0 hook. These small profile lures look like the glass minnows that are holding in our lagoons at this time of the year and those predatory fish mentioned above love to strike at them. Along the beaches redfish, tripletail, jack, and snook have been consistently coming over the gunnels of the boat on days we can get out there to fish.

We are currently booking for our May and June snook, redfish, and tarpon opportunities, so if you would like to get out there and catch your next memory please visit our website at Fineline Fishing Charters or give us a call at 321-636-3727 to check our available dates.
